Hi,
Greetings,
Generally, I posted this thread to seek people interested in taking part in the Cicada 3301 event. Nothing is certain but it's considered to be an underground that comes up with a puzzle every year. First images have so far only been posted on reddit and 4chan. The challenges vary from cryptography to steganography. There are even psychical clues (i.e posters, hidden places etc.). They always tend to initiate the first clue in January and to be precise the 2012th one was posted on the 6th, 2013th - 5th; so this one is expected to be on the 4th.
Thus, I'm looking for enthusiasts to form a small group for the occasion and work on it together. The so far formed group consists of fourteen members outside HTS but I'll be recruiting more from other public boards and IRCs. Nobody really knows what the prize for the first one to solve them all is but the very notion that nobody has been able to fully complete each assignment is awkward.
I have sought advice from people that have invented half the steganography techniques applied nowadays, book writers and even a Kaspersky analyst. In other words, it's a form of ARG. Last years' contestants have grouped on mibbit and n0v4 networks. Due to the amount of challenges leaking from the first clue, as I said, there are also physical signs and further information that can't be accessed by everyone simply because nobody lives in the US for instance. This is why we need as many people as possible so that they may check up on the GPS coordinates.
